Thousands of product delivery workers through mobile applications, as well as application-based taxi drivers, have organized to demand the Federal Government fulfill certain actions to improve their labor rights. The collective Ni Un Repartidor Menos expressed their dissatisfaction: "They made us waste our time where they only defended their Tropicalized Copy of the Rider Law from Spain which they defend as a success story when we know it is not so. They lied to us by saying they were not aware of the Reform. They have defended themselves in the media promising things they know are not achievable."
Massive demonstrations in Mexico City are expected, with participation from workers of various delivery companies. Protests are anticipated to cause road closures for hours in the center of the capital. The demands stem from a lack of progress in labor rights for delivery drivers and mobile app workers, including those associated with large logistics companies such as Amazon and Mercado Libre.
In the context of a potential new labor reform in Mexico that could provide greater social security for delivery workers, the workers are demanding effective dialogue with the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum and the inclusion of all labor sectors in the project.
The demonstration of delivery workers and app workers in Mexico City is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30, at 11:00 AM. It is expected to affect the city center, covering municipalities like Cuauhtémoc and Venustiano Carranza. The two planned routes for the contingents extend from the San Rafael Theater to the Secretariat of the Interior, and from Lecumberri Park to the Chamber of Deputies, which could impact major roads like Insurgentes, Reforma, Eduardo Molina, and the Congress of the Union. Crowd buildup is anticipated to start from 10:30 AM.
The main complaint of the workers is the lack of dialogue with the government, and they claim that the proposed labor reforms must benefit all platform employees, not just delivery workers. In the words of the organizers, "They lied to us by saying there was no Reform." The workers are mobilizing in preparation for the march in Mexico City.
